FAQ

How do you say 'Hikaru' and what does it mean?

It's pronounced [hee – car – roo] and it's a Japanese word which means 'to shine'.

I'd love to go to Hikaru for lunch but my break is fairly short. Your beautiful meals must take quite a long time to prepare, right?

Actually, not necessarily! Our meals are usually served within a couple of minutes or a little bit longer if we run out and have to cook any particular item. There might be a slightly longer wait during busy lunch hour or dinner (on Thursday) in which your patience is greatly appreciated.

Certain meals like the Bento Box take longer to prepare (10-15 minutes). Special orders may also take a little bit longer.

Since you're in a food court, do I wait and pick up my own meal after ordering?

Yes. Order your meal at the counter and you'll be given an 'order number'. You can then collect your meal when your number is called. (It'll probably help if you could stay close to the counter so you could hear your number being called).

How come the person who ordered after me get their meal first?

Some meals are simpler and quicker to serve than the others, but be assured that your order is being prepared.

Which one of your dish on the menu is gluten free?

Unfortunately, we do not have gluten free food at this stage. Some meals may have less gluten than the others, but we simply can not guarantee that they're gluten free.

Do you use MSG on your food?

We do not use any more MSG on all of our food, however, MSG may be present in the sauces and seasonings that we use. We can not guarantee that our food is MSG free, in case you have a severe allergy/reaction to even the slightest of it.

I'm a vegetarian, do you have any vegetarian dish?

Some of our tastiest sushis are suitable for vegetarians. Also check out the YakiUdon (Stir-fried Japanese rice noodle) or Ramen Noodle Soup which can be turned into a vegetarian dish.

Is your curry dish very spicy?

The curry are just MILD because we keep in mind that some people can't handle the heat as well as others. For those who wants it with a little more 'kick', we've provided Japanese chilli powder for you. If you're not sure, ask for a taste. We don't want you to miss out on our fantastic Japanese curry. It's the best!

There's no sushi displayed at the counter (Maroochydore store). How can I order them?

Our fresh hand-rolled sushi are constantly being made in the kitchen by our sushi chef. There's a sushi menu on the counter top to help you with your order.

Do you only sell your sushi pre-packed (Maroochydore store)?

Some popular sushis are made and packed straight away so that it's readily available when you order it. However, let our staff know if you would like your sushi made differently. We understand that some people might not like certain things and prefer others. We can generally make sushi to your order.

You sell sushi in rolls and packs (Maroochydore store), what is the difference?

Traditionally in Japan, sushi are cut up before being served. But more and more sushi outlets in Australia sell them in 'rolls' for convenience.

At Hikaru, a pack is generally 2 rolls of sushi cut up into 8 pieces. Some varieties have less than 8 pieces in a pack.

Please refer to our 'Sushi' page, it shows our sushis in packs.

I love wasabi and ginger with my sushi. How much do you charge for that?

No, we don't charge you for that!

Do you do sushi platter? What about catering for private function?

YES! We do sushi platters in 3 different sizes to suit your needs. We have also catered with our hot meals and snacks. Please visit Hikaru and talk to our staff who will be more than happy to assist you with your catering needs.
